2. Hosting and access data

This website is a static website hosted using GitHub Pages, a service provided by GitHub.

When you access this website, technically necessary connection and usage data are transmitted to GitHub. These data may include:

  • your IP address;
  • the date and time of the request;
  • the page or file requested;
  • the referring website, if transmitted by your browser;
  • browser and operating-system information;
  • device and connection information; and
  • technical information concerning the response to the request.

GitHub states that the IP addresses of visitors to GitHub Pages websites are logged and stored for security purposes, irrespective of whether the visitor is signed in to GitHub.

The processing is necessary to provide the website securely and reliably. To the extent that this processing takes place under my responsibility, its legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). My legitimate interests are the secure, reliable and efficient provision of this academic website and the protection of the website and hosting infrastructure against misuse and attacks.

The recipients of the data may include GitHub, Inc., GitHub B.V., their affiliated companies, and service providers used by GitHub.

GitHub may process personal data in the United States and other countries outside the European Economic Area. According to GitHub, relevant international transfers are supported, where applicable, by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

Further information concerning GitHub’s processing of personal data, international transfers and retention periods is available in the GitHub General Privacy Statement.

I do not receive or independently store GitHub Pages server logs containing visitor IP addresses. The applicable retention periods for data processed directly by GitHub are determined by GitHub in accordance with its own policies and legal obligations.

I do not use analytics, advertising or tracking services on this website.

The website itself does not use cookies or comparable browser-storage technologies. It does not load external fonts, external JavaScript libraries, social-media plugins, embedded videos, maps or other third-party content when a page is opened.

Consequently, no consent banner is used.

If the technical configuration of the website changes, this privacy notice will be updated and any legally required consent mechanism will be implemented.

The purpose of the processing is to review and respond to your message. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is the effective handling of academic, professional and other legitimate correspondence.

Where your communication concerns steps requested by you before entering into a contract, or an existing contractual relationship, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR may additionally apply.

The data will be deleted when the correspondence has been conclusively dealt with and continued storage is no longer necessary, unless statutory retention duties or legitimate interests in continued storage apply.

No connection to the operator of the linked website is established merely because the link is displayed. When you follow an external link, the operator of the destination website may process personal data under its own responsibility. The privacy information provided by that operator applies.

Subject to the applicable statutory requirements, you have the right to:

  • request access to personal data concerning you;
